Hi [First Name], here's what's been happening at Henderson Libraries!

A Message from Executive Director, Marcie Smedley

Hello and Season's Greetings!

As we near the end of the year, I find myself reflecting on what has happened these past 12 months. I look back with awe and gratitude for both the amazing team I work alongside at Henderson Libraries and for the wonderful community we serve. We've accomplished so much, and I'd like to share just a few highlights here:

  • Reopening the Green Valley Library after major renovations and expansion of partnerships to provide services for job seekers and employers (see below).
  • Opened our new West Henderson Library providing more service to residents on the West side of Henderson (see below).
  • Obtained a new outreach vehicle to provide library service in areas that are not geographically close to an existing library facility (see below).
  • Celebrated the 20th anniversary of our Paseo Verde Library.
  • Reopened our Gibson Library Book Store in partnership with the Friends of Henderson Libraries.
  • Saw the return of some of our favorite events – our volunteer appreciation luncheon, the APPLE (All People Promoting Literacy Efforts) author visits, and Crafting for a Cause, as well as the introduction of some new and reimagined programs – One Book One Henderson, Poetry Palooza, and Winter Reading Bingo Challenge (see below).

So, it is with gratitude that I close out 2022, and with hope and inspiration that I look forward to 2023 and all that we can achieve together. Thank you for your continued support of Henderson Libraries. I look forward to seeing you - whether in the library or out and about. Here's to imagining possibilities, discovering opportunities, and connecting with our community!

-Marcie

The New & Improved Green Valley Library
Green Valley Library
The Green Valley Library, the most senior of our buildings, went through extensive and necessary renovations, and we held a Grand Reopening event in June with our Workforce Connections partners.

This library now includes a new EmployNV Career Hub which provides a wide array of employment services and connects jobseekers to work-related training and education, plus an innovative EmployNV Business Hub, an employer-focused center concentrating on the employment and training needs of local businesses.

We are thrilled to offer these helpful resources to our community while still providing the traditional library services you love.

Say Howdy to the West Henderson Library
West Henderson Library
We officially opened the brand-new West Henderson Library in September near the communities of Inspirada and Anthem. This neighborhood library has given us the opportunity to better serve this quickly growing part of our city. It is located at 3243 Bicentennial Pkwy. (89044) in the Bicentennial Marketplace. Stop by and check it out!

Name the Library Truck!
Name the Library Truck

In addition to our new library, we also have a bright and beautiful new truck so we can bring the library out to our community! We're ready to hit the road, but the truck needs a name. We're asking Henderson residents of all ages to enter the "Name our Library Truck" contest with their suggestions. The winner will receive a special prize, including a gift card and library swag. Contest deadline is 5pm on December 31st.

For more info and to enter, visit hendersonlibraries.com/name-our-truck.

We can't wait to hear what you come up with!

Funding for this vehicle has been provided by the Institute for Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered through the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records.
